Oliver worked with the R&B group “The Gap Band” from 1979 to 1983. While with the band he also launched a songwriting and music production career.

Oliver and his wife Evelyn met while they were both in college. They have six adult children and five grandchildren. Oliver loves golf, basketball, walking and bike riding.
